abstract

Europe is dominated by a ‘technocracy with no soul’ – a technocratic class far away from everyday problems of citizens. The prejudicial nature – at least partial – of this thought is discussed. The element providing continuity to the ongoing process is the principle of the cen- trality of the human person: this principle is the genuine heritage, along with the Christian and Kantian-Enlightened ethical and religious traditions, within the European spirit. The European Union is not a cold bureaucratic construction, but a promising and even exciting plot of commit- ments, as long as we like it and we take these commitments seriously.
