Literatura, ideología y ansiedad

Abstract

Drawing on Lacan’s theory of the subject and Althusser’s theory of ideology, this chapter studies the textual symptoms that indicate a crisis in neoliberal ideology, which is based on the image of a free and autonomous subject. The ‘real’ subject does not align with the idealized ‘image’ demanded by ideological discourse. This misalignment gives rise to anxiety, depression, and mental illness. Through novels such as Pablo Gutiérrez’s Democracia (2012), Elvira Navarro’s La trabajadora (2014), and Marta Sanz’s Clavícula (2017), the author examines the textual symptoms where the imaginary begins to crack, allowing glimpses of the real nature of capitalist exploitation to emerge through these fissures.
