Abstract

This essay focuses on the identification of the recipients of the third book of Lettere by the Venetian playwright Andrea Calmo (published in Venice in 1552). We aim to clarify the identities of the historical figures who remained unknown in the modern edition of the work, conducted by Vittorio Rossi in Turin in 1888. Our research results reveal an internal subdivision of the book into three groups of recipients, distinguished by their social background: a) patricians; b) noblemen from the mainland, middle-class men, artists, intellectuals, soldiers, clerics, and artisans from Venice and other territories; and c) prostitutes.
