Il miglior giudice è il re de Raffaello Melani: un ensayo temprano de traducción en verso de un drama de Lope (El mejor alcalde, el rey)
Abstract
This paper studies some characteristics of Melani's verse translation (1942) of Lope de Vega’s El mejor alcalde, el rey, published in a context of prose translations of this playwright's plays. After pointing out the distortions to which the respect of rhyme and metre obliged him, a possible alternative solution is presented and the advisability of maintaining rhyme in translations of golden age theatre texts is discussed.
