Abstract
This chapter reflects on one of the aspects that may have most profoundly shaped Basque literature in the postcrisis historical context, while also offering a comparative analysis with the broader Hispanic landscape: the spectral appearances of the traumatic past related to the recent armed political conflict. Many literary works depict various spectral realities in which the traumatic past asserts itself, complicating the present, prompting reflection on the conflict, its origins, and its nature, and transforming comfortable positions into uncomfortable ones. In contrast to the ‘post-ETA poetics’, which seem to leave no room for ghosts, the author offers a panoramic view of Basque literature on this topic through a diverse, though not exhaustive, range of narrative and dramatic works.
