Gherardo Marone, traductor al italiano de Las bizarrías de Belisa
Abstract
This essay examines the context in which Gherardo Marone’s first Italian translation of Las bizarrías de Belisa by Lope de Vega (UTET, 1933) was produced and explores the reasons behind his decision to translate the work into verse. In doing so, a passage from Le bizzarrie di Belisa is analyzed to understand some of the strategies Marone employed and how the context in which the translator was working influenced the final outcome. To strengthen the analysis, Vaiopoulos’s verse translation of the same work (L’audace Belisa, Alinea, 2012) is used as a point of comparison.
