Abstract

During the recent years, an epidemic of gasoline inhalation and consequently of serious fire “accidents” has been affecting Wichí children and teenagers living in several areas of the Argentinian Chaco. This chapter seeks to ethnographically delimit the problem and to defend an explanatory hypothesis that combines linguistic-conceptual, sociological and technological factors to explain this contemporary phenomenon.
