Abstract

The dialogue between history and management, interrupted in the 1960s with a ‘scientific turn’ that rejected contexts not statistically reliable, has been revived in the new century. This resurgence challenged methodological misunderstandings, exploring the use of sources and history's theoretical value. This paper uses microhistory to propose a new approach to case studies, addressing epistemological aspects of sources to navigate today’s turbulence. In a complex world where strategy outcomes are unpredictable and cause-effect links appear only in retrospect, a rigorous study of contingencies is vital.
