Abstract

This chapter interprets Italian network contracts as a distinctive form of inter-organizational networks and discusses their relevance through the lens of Gino Zappa’s business economics. It argues that network contracts should not be viewed merely as legal instruments supporting collaboration, but as organizational arrangements that extend coordination beyond the boundaries of individual firms while preserving their autonomy. Drawing on the literature on inter-organizational governance and evidence from the National Observatory on Business Networks, the chapter highlights how network contracts contribute to competitiveness, resilience, and organizational development within the Italian productive system.
