Abstract
The nature and intensity of Safavid diplomatic engagement with Venice
should be considered in the light of Ottoman-Venetian and Safavid-
Venetian relations, as they were closely interrelated during this
period. In the sixteenth century, this relationship was mainly centred
on the issue of the Ottoman threat.
