Abstract
This volume explores multilingualism in theatre across different periods and literary traditions, with particular attention to Romance languages. The essays examine how linguistic plurality shapes dramatic writing, performance, identity, conflict and intercultural exchange, as well as the challenges it poses for translation. From early modern drama to contemporary theatre, the contributions analyse multilingual and heterolingual practices on the page and stage, focusing on their dramaturgical functions and on strategies for translating linguistic variation across languages, cultures and performance contexts.
