Éxitos y fracasos de las máquinas hidráulicas extranjeras en las minas del Alto Perú, siglo XVIII

Abstract

The article focuses on three foreign mining experts who participated in the manufacture and implementation of drainage pumps in Alto Perú during the eighteenth century. The operation of these devices reveals the rhythms and forms of interest and disinterest of the technical communities, even though they were used sporadically and ephemerally. The problems involved by these machines can be therefore considered as singular accidents within the set of mining techniques of the 18th century: they do not seem to have transformed the mining practices, but they did transform the mentalities and approaches of the people involved in the industry.
