La vaca, la vicuña y el tatú: notas sobre el asfalto y los animales

Abstract

The asphalting of roads in South America transforms the interactions between humans, machines and animals. Three cases are addressed: the prohibition of cattle on roads and its impact on livestock; the de-animalization of Andean roads and the production of neo-wild landscapes; and the running over of fauna on Chaco roads, where the machine is paradoxically inscribed in the trophic chain. It is concluded that asphalt not only reconfigures territories, but also ecologies and socio-environmental dynamics.
