¿Mito o monstruo?

Cuando la literatura colombiana se confronta con la figura de Pablo Escobar

Abstract

Pablo Escobar died in 1993 but his figure is still present in today’s artistic environment. This article studied the ‘character Escobar’ as he appears in the Columbian fiction, and more precisely in six novels published between 1993 and 2017 by writers such as Restrepo, Vallejo, Franco, Vásquez, Forero Quintero and Mesa. By analysing the allusions to the capo, his (dis)appearences, different names, descriptions…, this study examines how these authors deal with the heroic or monstrous facets of the so-called Patrón del Mal, and his mythical and sacred dimension, raising the question of an eventual responsibility of the writers in the mythification process of Escobar.
