On the Trail of Evliya Çelebi’s Inscriptions and Graffiti
abstract
The Turkish traveller Evliya Çelebi was accustomed to leave a small graffito, or even a skillfully carved inscription, in the places he visited during his long travels across the whole Ottoman World. These traces can be compared with what he recorded in his oceanic Seyahatname and in other writings, a work in progress whose first results are offered in this paper.
