Riflessioni sull’architettura armena nel segno dell’identità e delle dinamiche di confronto interculturale

Abstract

This brief reflection on Armenian architecture intends to be a homage to the friend and colleague Gianclaudio Macchiarella. Remembering our long conversations and moving on the path traced by our common friend Adriano Alpago-Novello, I will argument on the deep and crucial connexion between the artistic production and the spiritual world in the Armenian context. Leaving aside the positivistic approach that dominated the studies during the first decades of the XX century, I will insist on the necessity to look beyond shapes, plans and figures, toward a more intimate dimension of the artistic production, in order to decipher and unveil those more vital and deep meanings and intents indissolubly connected to the Armenian culture and identity.
