La ejemplaridad de Las dos doncellas

Abstract

The first meaning of ‘doncella’ in the Tesoro de la Lengua Castellana, of Covarrubias, explains the title Las dos doncellas, of Cervantes. The Tametsi decree of the Council of Trent in favor of women contradicts the manipulation of Américo Castro. A hypothetetical correction to the editio princeps is suggested.
